Irish Pub Radio is a free service to the many thousands of Irish Pubs located around the world, that would like to have a huge mixture of Irish music to play in their pub. It comes live from the heart of Ireland, transmitted digitally via the internet in cd quality to your pub.

It’s crazy.

Listening to the Irish revolutionary songs, it’s stunning how many of them have an anti-war message.

BUT, the one that really struck home was: “Green Fields Of France”

*** begin quote ***

Now Willy McBride, I can’t help wondering why
Do those who lie here know why they died.
Did they really believe when they answered the cause,
Did they really believe that this war would end wars?

But the sorrow, the sufferin’, the glory, the pain
The killing and dying were all done in vain.
But, Willy McBride, it all happened again, and again, and again, and again, and again.

“Willy McBride” is my new rallying cry.

Let’s “support the troops” by bringing all the girls and boys home.

“America isn’t easy. America is advanced citizenship. You gotta want it bad, ’cause it’s gonna put up a fight. It’s gonna say “You want free speech? Let’s see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who’s standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours. You want to claim this land as the land of the free? Then the symbol of your country can’t just be a flag; the symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then, you can stand up and sing about the “land of the free”.” — President Andrew Shepherd played by Michael Douglas in “The American President” (1995)

Unlike the faux anti-war movement of the 1960’s radical left, which was about Communism and electing D’s, mine is rooted in, what I most humbly think is, the wisdom, that we have to be more like Switzerland.

Note, that I’m not an “isolationist”. But like Ron Paul, I think we are not the “world’s policemen”.

Bring the troops home.

Someone mess with us, nuke ’em. Nice and clean.

But by the same token, MYOB!

Argh!

Remember Willie McBride!
